The Beauty of a Mountain Wedding

For years you thought true love was a myth. Just a concept to sell chocolates and silly cards once a year, and get people lining up to see the newest gushy romantic-comedy that only reinforces this fantasy. But then it happened. You met the one. Their smile flutters the wings of butterflies in your stomach, their laugh gives you a sense of warmth, they pick you up when you’re down and you do the same in return. Your own theories have been proven wrong and you’ve found the person you want to spend the rest of your days with, growing old together side by side.

Now that you guys have found each other among the sea of fishes, you have a lot of decisions to make about the “big day.” Do you invite the odd members of your extended family? Would attendees prefer a chicken or fish plate—maybe a vegan option? Yet, one of the most important decisions you have to make, of course, is where to get married? Can we offer you our two cents? A romantic mountain wedding in Southern Colorado!

We understand, especially if you don’t live in Colorado, that a destination wedding can seem a little overwhelming. With figuring out transportation for your family and friends, where to stay, and what to do, it’s a lot to figure out on your own, especially with so much on your plate as it is. Is it really worth it? Short answer, yes! You won’t regret the decision for a second when you say “I do” surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

To further ease your wedding burden, here at Discover SoCo, we can recommend a venue, where to stay, and activities for your wedding party to do (that is if you’re not completely content just soaking in the grandeur of the mountain scenery). Let’s go over a few of the reasons why your wedding should be in the romantic mountainscape of Southern Colorado.

Weather

One of the only downsides of a Colorado wedding is the eccentric weather we experience. We’ve been known to experience snow flurries in April and 70°F days in December. The good news? It is always beautiful. Whether you want to seal your eternal love with a kiss under the flurry of pristine white snowflakes in winter, surrounded by leaves transforming from a lush green to a mesmerizing collection of reds and oranges in the fall, or embraced by the warm rays of the sun in summer, it’s never a bad time of the year to get married in Colorado.

While you can’t predict the weather, especially here, there is one thing you can count on. It will always be beautiful, and your wedding will be unforgettable.

Nature

While churches are traditional and beautiful, and beaches offer their own allure for a ceremony, there is nothing quite like a wedding surrounded by the immensity and magnificence of the mountains. From when the sun first rises and illuminates the land with its warm radiance, to when it covers the area in a blanket of its orange and red glow while it sets, there is no bad time of day for your mountain wedding. Even nighttime is an option, for with no glaring city lights, the stars are able to shine brighter than you’ve ever imagined.

Not only will the beauty of your ceremony leave the attendees awestruck, but the wedding photography will be incomparable. Also, the land is rich in wildlife, so don’t be surprised if some of your guests happen to be elks, moose, and eagles, giving your ceremony that fairytale look that every romantic dreams of.

Venue and Lodging

While you could throw a stone in Southern Colorado and find a location majestic enough to hold your wedding, you’re probably looking for something a little more traditional while still preserving the rustic, mountain environment. We recommend Hillside, Colorado. A quaint mountain township that has held onto the pure simplicity of the days of old. If you exclusively reserve the property, you can lodge up to 43 of your family and friends between the charming Lamp Post Lodge and the five boutique Hillside Cottages.

Located between Westcliffe, Salida, and Canon City, the township of Hillside will greet you with open arms and be more than happy to host the wedding of your dreams. If you’d like to learn more, be sure to click here.
